Dodgers keep October rolling, Rays sweep the Yankees, Brewers eliminate the Padres

Dodgers keep October rolling.

This is The Sports Reset for Thursday October 8th

In MLB’s division series, the Los Angeles Dodgers closed out the Atlanta Braves in four games with a 4 to 1 win. Andy Pages broke a tie with a two-run, bases-loaded single in the seventh, and Max Muncy added his Dodgers-record 19th postseason homer. The Tampa Bay Rays swept the New York Yankees with a 4 to 3 victory, as Bryan Baker stranded the tying run at second. The Milwaukee Brewers eliminated the San Diego Padres in four games, winning 3 to 1 behind Garrett Mitchell’s go-ahead run and home-run robbery. The Cleveland Guardians avoided elimination by beating the Chicago White Sox 9 to 3. In the NHL, Kyle Connor’s late second goal lifted the Winnipeg Jets over the Colorado Avalanche 3 to 2. Tom Wilson had three points as the Washington Capitals beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5 to 3, while Evan Bouchard scored twice in the Edmonton Oilers’ 5 to 2 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Looking ahead, the Guardians face the White Sox in Game 4 of their AL Division Series, with Chicago still holding a two-games-to-one lead. Cleveland’s offence finally broke through Wednesday as Jo Adell drove in three runs and José Ramírez delivered two more, while its pitchers set a nine-inning postseason record with 19 strikeouts. In the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs open a three-game road trip against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Nashville Predators visit the Montreal Canadiens, the Philadelphia Flyers meet the Ottawa Senators, the Vancouver Canucks face the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Avalanche play the Calgary Flames. Beyond the scoreboard, Jon Rahm will not join LIV Golf’s post-bankruptcy relaunch in 2027 after his lawyer said the proposed terms were unacceptable.
