Dodgers take control.

This is The Sports Reset for Wednesday October 7th

In the MLB playoffs, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 3 to 1 in Game 3 of their NLDS. Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out 10 across seven innings, while Freddie Freeman and Kiké Hernández homered. The Dodgers now lead the series 2-1. The San Diego Padres stayed alive with a 4 to 3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, as Jake Cronenworth broke the tie with a homer and Michael King recorded six outs for the save. In the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs erased a three-goal deficit and beat the Nashville Predators 5 to 4 in overtime, with Auston Matthews scoring the winner after Gavin McKenna’s first NHL goal. The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Montreal Canadiens 6 to 4, the Detroit Red Wings topped the Ottawa Senators 5 to 3, and the New York Rangers handled the New York Islanders 5 to 2. The Florida Panthers edged the Los Angeles Kings 2 to 1.

Looking ahead, the MLB playoffs continue Wednesday with the Cleveland Guardians visiting the Chicago White Sox for Game 3. Chicago leads 2-0 and can reach its first ALCS since 2005 after Braden Montgomery’s two-run double drove its Game 2 comeback. The Tampa Bay Rays also carry a 2-0 lead into Game 3 at the New York Yankees. The Dodgers face the Braves in Game 4, while the Brewers meet the Padres with another chance to close their NLDS. In the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the Washington Capitals for the 101st meeting between Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, including playoffs, during Ovechkin’s final season. The Colorado Avalanche also visit the Winnipeg Jets. Beyond the scoreboard, Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov will miss six to eight weeks with a lower-body injury, but he will not need surgery.
