Guardians claim the Central!
This is The Sports Reset for Sunday September 27th
In MLB, the Cleveland Guardians clinched a third straight AL Central title by beating the Kansas City Royals 11 to 5, while the Colorado Rockies’ 9 to 6 win over the Chicago White Sox sealed it. Cleveland erased a three-run first-inning deficit as Patrick Bailey and Brayan Rocchio each homered twice. The Guardians also secured the American League’s second seed and a first-round bye. The Detroit Tigers edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 3 in Justin Verlander’s final start; he struck out six over five-plus innings. The Jays lost 5 to 1 to the Cincinnati Reds. In Formula One, George Russell won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar, surviving two safety-car restarts and Verstappen’s late charge. In UFC, Raul Rosas Jr. stopped Raoni Barcelos in the fifth round of their main event. In the CFL, the Calgary Stampeders beat the Ottawa Redblacks 45 to 31.
Looking ahead, the PGA’s Presidents Cup enters Sunday singles with the International Team leading the United States 10 and a half points to 7 and a half, needing five more points for only its second victory in 16 tries. Canadians Corey Conners faces Justin Thomas, while Nick Taylor meets Russell Henley. In the NFL, the Buffalo Bills host the Los Angeles Chargers after scoring at least 36 points in each of their first two wins; Josh Allen’s offence has produced touchdowns on 10 of 18 meaningful possessions, while the Chargers arrive 0 and 2. The Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys meet in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Rio, where Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry test a Dallas defence allowing 173 and a half rushing yards per game. In MLB, the Jays close their season against the Reds with Max Scherzer making what could be his final career start. Off the field, the Chicago Bears ruled Caleb Williams out of Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a hamstring injury, while backup Tyson Bagent remains questionable following a concussion.
