Jays lose to Rangers, Canadiens sweep Maple Leafs, Joshua Van retains flyweight title
Jays lose to Rangers!
This is The Sports Reset for Sunday September 20th
In MLB, the Jays lost 6 to 2 to the Texas Rangers, who used five relievers after Cal Quantrill left early and moved into sole possession of the AL West lead. Mookie Betts added three doubles as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 10 to 4. In NHL preseason action, the Montreal Canadiens swept their split-squad meetings with the Toronto Maple Leafs, winning 4 to 1 and 4 to 3. Phillip Danault scored twice in Toronto, while Cole Caufield supplied the overtime winner in Montreal. In UFC, Joshua Van retained the flyweight title over Alexandre Pantoja by unanimous decision, taking the cards 49 to 46, 48 to 47 and 50 to 45. Van finished the third round with a sharp combination flurry and, unlike their injury-shortened first meeting, proved himself across five rounds. In WTA tennis, Iva Jovic defeated Peyton Stearns in straight sets to win Guadalajara.
Looking ahead, NFL Sunday closes with the Indianapolis Colts at the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes showed encouraging mobility in his return from an ACL tear, and Kenneth Walker powered Kansas City’s ground game in the opener, while Indianapolis managed only 251 yards. The Minnesota Vikings visit the Chicago Bears with both teams unbeaten, the Miami Dolphins meet the San Francisco 49ers, the Philadelphia Eagles try the Tennessee Titans, and the Washington Commanders meet the Dallas Cowboys with both chasing a first win. In MLB, the Jays close their series against the Rangers after being held to six hits Saturday. On the PGA Tour, Neal Shipley carries a one-shot lead over Ben Kohles into the Biltmore Championship’s final round after three bogey-free days. In NHL preseason play, the Calgary Flames host the Seattle Kraken. Later this week, the Presidents Cup begins Thursday at Medinah.
