In MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their fifth straight NL West title by beating the Cincinnati Reds 8 to 2. Kyle Tucker went four for five with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs, helping Los Angeles secure its 13th division crown in 14 seasons. The Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 3 to 1 behind Munetaka Murakami’s three-run homer, moving Chicago into a tie for the AL Central lead. Yordan Alvarez hit his 40th homer as the Houston Astros topped the Kansas City Royals 6 to 2 and reclaimed first place in the AL West. The Boston Red Sox rallied past the Texas Rangers 4 to 3 on Trevor Story’s three-run shot in the eighth. In the NFL, Josh Allen threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more as the Buffalo Bills opened their new stadium with a 41 to 31 win over the Detroit Lions.
Looking ahead to Friday, the Jays open a critical MLB series at the Texas Rangers with Dylan Cease facing Kumar Rocker. Cease is 11 and 5 with a 2.38 ERA, while Texas enters one game behind Houston in the AL West and two back of the final wild-card spot. The Philadelphia Phillies visit the New York Mets, while the San Francisco Giants meet the newly crowned Dodgers. In the CFL, the 10-and-3 Montreal Alouettes visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, with Davis Alexander bringing 4,196 passing yards and 27 touchdowns into the matchup. At the PGA’s Biltmore Championship in Asheville, Max Greyserman and Eric Cole share the lead at seven under, one shot ahead of Ben Kohles. Off the ice, the Winnipeg Jets suspended three-time Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck after he missed training camp while awaiting a trade.
