Sinner owns Centre Court!

This is The Sports Reset for Monday, July 13th.

At Wimbledon, ATP world No. 1 Jannik Sinner beat Alexander Zverev in four sets to win his second straight men’s title, and this one had a little grit baked in. Zverev grabbed the opener in a tiebreak, then Sinner settled in, read the serve better, and pulled away after Zverev slipped and appeared bothered by his knee in the third. It was Sinner’s fifth Grand Slam title, and he did it without dropping serve in either the semifinal or the final.

In golf, Tom Kim won the Genesis Scottish Open at 17 under, Steven Fisk took the ISCO Championship at 16 under, and Haeran Ryu won the LPGA’s Amundi Evian Championship at 20 under, one shot clear of Brooke Henderson. In WTA finals, Mayar Sherif won the Grand Est Open 88, and Tatjana Maria took the Hall of Fame Open in straight sets. In MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays lost 5 to 4 to the San Diego Padres.

Looking ahead, baseball owns the next couple of nights. The MLB Home Run Derby goes Monday in Philadelphia at 8 p.m. Eastern, with Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Junior Caminero, Ben Rice, Munetaka Murakami, Jordan Walker, Jac Caglianone, and Willson Contreras in the field. The format shifts away from the clock, so hitters get a set number of swings, which should make every miss feel a little louder.

Then Tuesday, the All-Star Game brings a Canadian angle right to the front: Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease starts for the American League against Philadelphia Phillies lefty Cristopher Sánchez for the National League. Cease is making his first All-Star appearance, and he becomes the first Blue Jays pitcher to start the Midsummer Classic since Roy Halladay in 2009. Sánchez gets the ball in his home ballpark, with six Phillies on the roster and the city getting a proper showcase.

Off the court, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly adding Frank Vogel to Steve Kerr’s staff, with Vogel expected to take a major role in defensive planning.
