Sale silences the Dodgers, Bills edge Steelers, Lee leads Tour Championship
Sale silences the Dodgers!
This is The Sports Reset for Friday August 28th
In MLB, the Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1 to 0, completing a three-game sweep. Chris Sale struck out 11 without issuing a walk in a five-hit shutout, while Drake Baldwin supplied the only run by homering on the first pitch of the game. The Braves strengthened their hold on the NL East and finished 5 and 1 against the NL West-leading Dodgers this season. The Jays lost 13 to 2 to the Kansas City Royals, with Jac Caglianone collecting five hits, a homer and six RBIs. That leaves Toronto three and a half games behind the final American League wild-card spot. In the NFL preseason, the Buffalo Bills edged the Pittsburgh Steelers 28 to 27 after Shane Buechele found Dante Pettis for the go-ahead two-point conversion with 1:06 remaining.
Looking ahead, the PGA Tour Championship continues Friday with Min Woo Lee at 8 under, two shots ahead of Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa. Lee opened with a bogey-free 62 in his East Lake debut, matching his career-low round, and the eventual champion earns the FedEx Cup, a 10 million dollar prize and a five-year PGA Tour exemption. On the LPGA Tour, Sei Young Kim leads the FM Championship at 8 under, one clear of Miyu Yamashita and Emily Kristine Pedersen. In MLB, the Jays host the Seattle Mariners with Dylan Cease carrying a 2.37 ERA into a start Toronto needs in its crowded wild-card chase. In the CFL, the Montreal Alouettes visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The NFL preseason schedule includes the New York Giants against the New York Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals visiting the Philadelphia Eagles. Beyond the scoreboard, three-time Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck publicly confirmed he requested a trade from the Winnipeg Jets several months ago, while the club said there is no update on a potential move.
