In the World Cup quarterfinals, England beat Norway 2 to 1 and Argentina beat Switzerland 3 to 1, setting up England against Argentina in the semifinals. Jude Bellingham scored both England goals, including the extra-time winner off a rebound in the 93rd minute, while Norway’s first men’s World Cup semifinal push ended there. Argentina needed extra time too: Julian Alvarez curled in the go-ahead goal in the 112th minute, and Lautaro Martinez finished it in the 121st after Switzerland had been reduced to 10 men.
In WTA tennis, Linda Noskova won Wimbledon 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 over Karolina Muchova for her first Grand Slam title, recovering after missing five match points in the second set. Paula Badosa also took the Nordea Open final.
In UFC, Max Holloway beat Conor McGregor after McGregor’s knee gave out early.
In baseball, the Jays lost 8 to 7 to the San Diego Padres.
Looking ahead, today’s biggest final is at Wimbledon, where Jannik Sinner faces Alexander Zverev for the men’s title after Noskova’s breakthrough on the women’s side.
In golf, the Genesis Scottish Open has Robert MacIntyre, Min Woo Lee, and Matt Fitzpatrick all at 12 under, while the ISCO Championship has Lucas Glover at 15 under with Aaron Wise one shot back. On the LPGA side, Haeran Ryu leads the Amundi Evian Championship at 18 under, with Canada’s Brooke Henderson two back and right in the Sunday mix.
In baseball, the Jays are back in San Diego against the Padres, while the Arizona Diamondbacks visit the LA Dodgers after Arizona’s 9 to 2 win Saturday.
