In MLB, the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Atlanta Braves 2 to 1 and became the first team to reach 80 wins. Jacob Misiorowski threw six scoreless innings with six strikeouts, repeatedly touched 100 miles per hour, and lowered his major-league-leading ERA to 1.68. William Contreras went four-for-four, while Trevor Megill stranded the tying run at second by striking out Ronald Acuña Jr. to finish it. The Jays lost 3 to 1 to the New York Yankees. In the NFL preseason, the Green Bay Packers beat the Denver Broncos 33 to 13, though Bo Nix completed six of nine passes with a touchdown in his return from a broken ankle. Guerrero passed his final tests after collecting an RBI double and two walks in a rehab appearance, and his return comes during Toronto’s push back into the American League playoff race. On the PGA Tour, Wyndham Clark carries a one-shot BMW Championship lead over Gary Woodland, who is chasing a place in next week’s Tour Championship while continuing his comeback from brain surgery. On the LPGA Tour, Miyu Yamashita holds a five-shot CPKC Women’s Open lead over Soo Bin Joo and Yuri Yoshida in Edmonton. In Formula 1, the Dutch Grand Prix Sprint features George Russell, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc. In the CFL, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit the Toronto Argonauts, while the NFL preseason offers 10 games, including the Kansas City Chiefs at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Beyond the scoreboard, Marc Lore is selling control of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx to Marc Stad at a 4 billion 500 million dollar valuation, pending league approval.
