The Jays answer back, Yankees power past Mariners, Swiatek faces Rybakina in National Bank Open final ... and more for August 13th
The Jays answer back!
This is The Sports Reset for Thursday August 13th
In MLB, the Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 6 to 4 at Rogers Centre. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had recently asked for patience during Toronto’s second-half slide, and a win over an American League East opponent offered some encouragement for a club that entered the night 49-58. The New York Yankees also powered past the Seattle Mariners 10 to 5. New York came in at 59-45 with one of baseball’s stingiest pitching staffs, and the five-run victory kept its strong stretch moving.
Looking ahead, the matchup to watch is the WTA National Bank Open final between Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina. Rybakina beat Swiatek in straight sets in the Australian Open quarterfinals earlier this year, then went on to win the championship, adding another layer to their latest meeting. In the CFL, the BC Lions visit the Calgary Stampeders after Calgary won their first meeting 41 to 33 behind three Vernon Adams Jr. touchdown passes. In MLB, the Jays host the Boston Red Sox again, while the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins meet in the Field of Dreams Game. The PGA’s FedEx St. Jude Championship and LPGA’s Portland Classic begin with every player at even par, and six NFL preseason games fill out the football schedule.
