Jays handle business, Yankees blank Cubs, Alouettes handle Redblacks, golf leaders bunch up ... and more for August 1st
Jays handle business!
This is The Sports Reset for Saturday August 1st
In MLB, the Jays beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3 to 1 at Rogers Centre, a useful home win built around run prevention more than fireworks. With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. still the name that shapes Toronto’s order, the important part was that the Cardinals never got the game into their preferred power lane. The New York Yankees also won a tight one at Wrigley Field, blanking the Chicago Cubs 2 to 0, while the Boston Red Sox went into Dodger Stadium and beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 9 to 4. In the CFL, the Montreal Alouettes handled the Ottawa Redblacks 34 to 13 at TD Place, a sharp road result for a Montreal team already sitting at the top of the East picture.
Looking ahead, the Jays get the St. Louis Cardinals again today at Rogers Centre, with Toronto trying to stack another win before the weekend turns. The Yankees and Cubs run it back at Wrigley Field, and the Red Sox-Dodgers series stays in Los Angeles with plenty of star power attached. In the CFL, the Calgary Stampeders visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the Saskatchewan Roughriders are in Edmonton to face the Elks. In golf, the Rocket Classic has Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Patrick Fishburn all at 10 under, while the AIG Women’s Open has Haeran Ryu leading at 7 under, one clear of Shiho Kuwaki. In tennis, the WTA VanOpen final is set for Maddison Inglis against Taylah Preston.
