The Jays take it, Dodgers edge Mariners, Giants rout Brewers, CFL heads to Winnipeg ... and more for July 30th
The Jays take it!
This is The Sports Reset for Thursday, July 30th.
In MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Washington Nationals 5 to 2, a useful road result against a Washington club that has been producing runs at the top of the league but also giving plenty back. The Jays did the important part first: they kept the Nationals’ power-heavy lineup quiet, then turned a midweek getaway game into a clean win before heading home.
The Los Angeles Dodgers stayed on track too, beating the Seattle Mariners 4 to 2, with a first-place Dodgers team continuing to lean on run prevention and a deep lineup. Elsewhere, the San Francisco Giants put up the loudest number of the day in a 16 to 3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Tampa Bay Rays blanked the Texas Rangers 3 to 0, and the Kansas City Royals shut out the Minnesota Twins 4 to 0. The New York Mets split their doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves, taking Game 1 by a 3 to 2 score before Atlanta answered 1 to 0 in Game 2.
Looking ahead, the Canadian stop is in the CFL, where the BC Lions visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Princess Auto Stadium, always a strong prairie setting for a Thursday night. In MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners run it back at Dodger Stadium, and that matchup has a little extra shape because the Dodgers have Shohei Ohtani leading their power group while Seattle is trying to stay close in a tight AL West race.
The New York Yankees also get an afternoon game against the Chicago White Sox, while the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals continue a division rivalry at Busch Stadium. In golf, the Rocket Classic opens with Brendon Todd, Lanto Griffin, and Joel Dahmen starting at even par, while the AIG Women’s Open has Alice Hewson out front at 3 under.
Later this week, The Jays return home Friday to begin a weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
