Elks steal first place, Stampeders rout Blue Bombers, Red Sox top Blue Jays, Yankees edge Phillies ... and more for July 25th
Elks steal first place!
This is The Sports Reset for Saturday July 25th
In the CFL, the Edmonton Elks edged the Saskatchewan Roughriders 36 to 34 on a 57-yard Vincent Blanchard field goal at the horn, and that one carried real West Division weight. Cody Fajardo threw for 510 yards and four touchdowns, Austin Mack turned four catches into 173 yards and two scores, and Edmonton moved to 6 and 1 with a win that came down to one last kick. In MLB, the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6 to 4 after Anthony Seigler led off with a homer and later helped break it open in the eighth. The New York Yankees squeezed past the Philadelphia Phillies 1 to 0 behind Cam Schlittler’s 12 strikeouts and a Paul Goldschmidt solo shot, while the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Mets 4 to 2 with Roki Sasaki striking out nine over seven innings.
Resetting to today, in the CFL, the Calgary Stampeders have already beaten the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 52 to 30, with Tyreik McAllister scoring on the ground, through the air, and on special teams in a rare all-phases performance. The Toronto Argonauts visit the BC Lions next, with Toronto turning to rookie kicker Brady Lidster after last week’s late miss from Lirim Hajrullahu. In MLB, the Blue Jays get another crack at the Red Sox at Fenway Park, while the Yankees and Phillies, Dodgers and Mets, and Mariners and Rangers all keep busy series moving. In golf, Michael Kim carries a three-shot lead at the 3M Open, and Jenny Shin has a five-shot cushion at the Women’s Scottish Open.
