Dodgers take the Bronx, White Sox rout Jays, England-France semifinal looms, Lucas Herbert leads The Open ... and more for July 18th
Dodgers take the Bronx!
This is The Sports Reset for Saturday, July 18th.
In MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers opened the second half by edging the New York Yankees 2 to 1 at Yankee Stadium. Max Muncy supplied the swing with a two-run homer in the seventh off Gerrit Cole after Cole stayed in following a leadoff walk, and Roki Sasaki gave Los Angeles five strikeouts in a tight, low-scoring start. The Jays had a rough restart in Toronto, losing 12 to 4 to the Chicago White Sox as Colson Montgomery drove in three, Braden Montgomery drove in four, and Sam Antonacci capped a five-run inning with a two-run shot. Elsewhere, the Atlanta Braves rolled the Texas Rangers 15 to 1 behind Drake Baldwin’s three-hit, five-RBI night and seven scoreless innings from Chris Sale, while the San Francisco Giants blanked the Seattle Mariners 7 to 0 after Landen Roupp worked seven two-hit innings and Willy Adames broke it open with a grand slam.
Looking ahead, the World Cup semifinal between England and France at Hard Rock Stadium gets top billing, with Kylian Mbappe carrying France’s attack after an eight-goal tournament run. In golf, The Open moves into the weekend with Lucas Herbert at 8 under after a record-tying 62, two shots clear of Cameron Young and Ryan Gerard, while Bryson DeChambeau is part of the chase after a two-stroke penalty dropped him back. In MLB, the Jays get the White Sox again at Rogers Centre, and Dodgers-Yankees continues as the marquee baseball series of the day. In the CFL, the Edmonton Elks already edged the BC Lions 19 to 17, with the Montreal Alouettes visiting the Calgary Stampeders and the Toronto Argonauts facing the Hamilton Tiger-Cats still ahead. Beyond the scoreboard, World Cup crowds are turning into a real business story, with major sports bars and beer sellers reporting packed rooms, emergency restocks, and record tournament demand.
